The Philadelphia Mint last struck BU American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins in a two-year period covering 1999 and 2000 as the coins transitioned from the original minting location at the San Francisco Mint (1986-1998) to the West Point Mint (2001-present). With the global pandemic forcing staff reductions and a seven-day closure of the West Point Mint, and demand for the coins skyrocketing, the Philadelphia Mint spent a two-week period from April 8 to April 20, 2020, striking an additional 240,000 American Eagle Silver Coins to fill the gap between supply and demand.
