Please take note that the US Mint recently added black tape to the top of the tubes of 2021 American Eagle Type 2 coins. This tape has been shown to break easily as a result of minor vibrations or handling. It is possible the tube you receive may have broken or loose tape. Obverse
The obverse of the 2021 American Eagle Gold Coin depicts Liberty. Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this vision includes a front-facing Liberty walking toward the viewer with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. Rays of sunshine frame her figure, the U.S. Capitol Building is visible at her feet, and a ring of stars encircles the design. Inscriptions include Liberty and 2021.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 2021 American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coins Type 2 is the new design from Jennie Norris. The new Type 2 design features a bald eagles head in left-profile relief. The physical features of the eagle are on prominent display, with its long feathers captured in great detail. The birds steely gaze watches carefully for its next meal and its powerful, hooked beak is depicted in the design. Inscriptions on this side include United States of America, In God We Trust, E Pluribus Unum, 50 Dollars, and 1 oz. Fine Gold.
History
Jennie Norris is a member of the US Mint Artistic Infusion Program and her new reverse design for the American Eagle Gold Series marks her first contribution to the program. Ms. Norries is a graphic designer, illustrator, and fine artist. She draws inspiration for much of her work from a life spent outside immersed in nature.
