Reverse

The heraldic eagle of the United States is on the reverse side of 2021 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Type 1 Coins. This beautiful design was modified for this series by John Mercanti and comes with a depiction of the American bald eagle in front-facing relief as it supports the US National Shield on its chest and carries olive branches in one talon and arrows in the other. Over its head is a cluster of 13 stars in a triangular formation. Inscriptions here include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER, and ONE DOLLAR.

History

The US Mint paused production of its 2021 American Eagle Silver Coins in June to facilitate changing out the dies it uses in coining. This enabled the mint to change from the production of Type 1 coins to the new Type 2 coins with a brand-new bald eagle reverse from Emily Damstra. As mentioned already, the coins in this listing were struck on the final day of Type 1 production and represent some of the last coins ever struck in the series with the original reverse design.
