History

Washingtons crossing of the Delaware River on the night of December 25, 1776, was a calculated gamble to try and strike a blow at British forces that would boost American morale before hostilities were halted for the winter. Washington and his forces decisively defeated the Hessian mercenaries serving for the British Army guarding the city of Trenton.
