Obverse

For the obverse design of the 2021 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin, the US Mint revives Morgans original image of Lady Liberty. This left-profile bust shows Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap with the laurel wreath and coronet crowns. The coronet has an inscription of LIBERTY, while the rim of the design includes 13 stars: six along the right and seven along the left. The inscriptions on this side read E PLURIBUS UNUM and 2021.

Reverse

In the reverse field of 2021 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins, you will find Morgans other original design for this series. This version of the heraldic eagle shows the American bald eagle clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace as it is framed by an oak-and-laurel wreath. The birds head looks toward the talon with the olive branch of peace. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.

History

The Philadelphia Mint was one of only two mints to strike the original Morgan Dollars every year from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1904. San Francisco was the other mint to do so. The Denver Mint only issued the coins in 1921. The New Orleans Mint issued the coins every year from 1879 to 1904, missing the first and last years as it was closed at those respective times. Carson City Mint issued the coins a total of 13 times from 1878 to 1885 and again from 1889 to 1893.
