History

New Orleans Mint only missed out on two production years in the history of the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin Series. The New Orleans Mint was closed from 1861 to 1878 as a result of the US Civil War and Reconstruction. When it reopened in 1879, the New Orleans Mint began striking Morgan Dollars, just missing the first year. Since the New Orleans Mint closed in 1909, it was not operating when the 1921 release was introduced.
