History
When the Pittman Act was passed in 1918, the US Mint began preparations to strike millions of new silver dollars for the first time since 1904. Initially, the original Morgan Silver Dollar was struck, but following efforts by American numismatists, a new design was created to celebrate the countrys newfound peace following WWI. The resulting design is now known as the Peace Silver Dollar and is considered one of the most beautiful coins in American history.
