Obverse
The obverse of 2021 Peace Dollar Silver Coins comes with an image of Lady Liberty designed by Anthony de Francisci. The effigy of Liberty is a left-profile relief with her hair flowing free in the breeze as she wears a towering crown on her head. The field includes inscriptions of LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRVST, and 2021. The original Peace Dollars used this same style of spelling for the word TRUST with a V in place of the U.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 2021 Peace Dollar Silver Coins is de Franciscis version of the American bald eagle. Reflecting Americas desire for peace following the horrors of World War I, the image shows a bald eagle sitting perched on an olive branch with its wings resting at its sides. The inscriptions on this field read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and PEACE.
History
The Peace Dollar went into production at the United States Mint on December 28, 1921. The coin replaced the Morgan Dollar and would be the last silver dollar in circulation in the US. It was struck from 1921 to 1928, and again in 1934 and 1935. After its cancellation, the next dollar coin issued by the US Mint was the Eisenhower Dollar in the 1970s, but those coins were only available with 40% silver in some select proof issues. None of the circulation coins had silver content.
