History
When Judo creator Kano Jigoro traveled abroad in 1889 to spread his new martial art, he was instantly given the chance to showcase his new moves. A fellow passenger was making fun of Jigoro on board a ship, perhaps due to his meager physical appearance. Jigoro responded by throwing the man down while making sure to protect his head from the ground with his hand. This single moment perfectly encapsulates the skill and sensitivity inherent in Judo. Jigoros dreams of global recognition were finally honored in 1964 when the sport was included in the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
