History

To mark the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Silver Series, the US Mint is introducing a new bald eagle design for the reverse to replace the heraldic eagle. However, the first several months of production will feature 2021-dated coins with the heraldic eagle still on the reverse before switching midyear to the new design on subsequent 2021-dated coins. These (S) American Eagles were produced at the San Francisco Mint in supplemental coining to help meet demand, but do not feature a mint mark.
