Obverse

Walking Liberty is depicted in full-figure relief on the obverse of 2021 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins. The image features Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks toward the sun on the horizon. She is reaching for the sun with her right hand while carrying branches of oak and laurel in her left hand. The American flag is draped over her shoulders. The inscriptions read Liberty, In God We Trust, and 2021.

Reverse

In the reverse design of the 2021 American Eagle Silver Coin, the US Mint features the John Mercanti design for the last time. Mercanti modernized the image in 1986. His version of the national emblem comes with a front-facing eagle holding the US national shield on its chest. Its talons clutch the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. Above its head, you will notice a triangular cluster of 13 stars. Inscriptions on this side of the coin include United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and 1 oz. Fine Silver One Dollar.

History

The US Mint has never changed the designs on its American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins since the 1986 debut of the series. The upcoming redesign on the reverse features a depiction of an American bald eagle in flight with a large oak branch in its talons.
