This design was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and is widely regarded as the most beautiful coin design in American history. It depicts Liberty in front-facing relief as she walks toward you. In the background, the US Capitol Building is visible at her feet and there are rays of sunshine behind her figure. There is a ring of 50 stars around the edge of the design field. The inscriptions include Liberty, 2021, and the W mint mark of the West Point Mint.

Reverse

A family of American bald eagles is found on the reverse face of the 2021-W Proof American Eagle Gold Coin. The design featured here was created in 1986 by Miley Busiek and is exclusive to this series. In the image, a male eagle flies over the nest as a female eagle shelters a hatchling under her wing. The inscriptions on this side read United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, In God We Trust, and 1/4 oz. Fine Gold 10 Dollars.

History

This is the last release in the history of the American Eagle Gold Series to feature the design from Miley Busiek. By mid-2021, the US Mint will transition the dies in its coining presses and introduce new 2021-dated coins with the new eagle design on the reverse.
