Obverse
The obverse of the 2021-W Proof American Eagle Silver Coin comes with a depiction of Walking Liberty. Designed in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, it first graced the US half dollar through 1947 and has been on the American Eagle Silver Coins since 1986. Inscriptions include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2021.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 2021-W Proof Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins, you will see the heraldic eagle for the final time. These coins were issued during the first half of 2021 with the front-facing eagle supporting the US national shield. Inscriptions on this side read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1 OZ FINE SILVER, and ONE DOLLAR. There is also a W mint mark from the West Point Mint.
History
John Mercanti modernized the historic heraldic eagle design concept for the American Eagle Silver Series in 1986. It featured on all versions of the American Eagle Silver Coin through mid-2021 and has since been replaced by a new design from Emily Damstra.
