Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse side of 2022 Australian Kangaroo Platinum Coins. This is the sixth-generation effigy of Her Majesty and the first Australian portrait to include her shoulders within the design since 1966. In this design from Jody Clark, Her Majesty is shown at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem. The inscriptions on this side include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 100 DOLLARS.
Reverse
A leaping kangaroo is found in the reverse design of 2022 Australian Kangaroo 1 oz Platinum Coins. This design is commonly used on a number of Australian Kangaroo bullion coins and is a favorite among investors and collectors. Created by Stuart Devlin, it is based on a historic Australian copper penny from 1936 and shows a red kangaroo in left-profile relief hopping across the design field. The design is encircled by stylized sunbursts. The inscriptions include AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO, 2022 1 9995 PLATINUM, and the P mint mark of Perth Mint.
History
Stuart Devlin created the first-ever decimalized coin designs for Australia in 1964 during its move away from historic Pound-based denominations to decimalized currency under the Australian dollar. This reverse design is one of his greatest bullion creations. It features annually on the following Australian Kangaroo bullion coins: 1 Kilo gold, 1 oz silver, and 1 oz platinum.
