The Kookaburra Series debuted in 1990 with silver bullion coins. At this point in time, the Australian Nugget Gold Series was the most prominent coin at Perth Mint. In 1990, the introduction of a native species on the Kookaburra Silver Coins also prompted a shift in the Australian Nugget Series from the gold nugget designs to kangaroo designs. Today, Perth Mint has Australian Kookaburra, Australian Kangaroo, Australian Koala, Australian Wedge Tail Eagle, and Australian Emu collections as options for buyers.

Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse side of 2022 Australian Kookaburra 1/10 oz Platinum Coins. This right-profile portrait shows Her Majesty at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. The Queen is shown here in the sixth-generation design to feature on Australian coins and was designed in 2015 by Jody Clark. The field includes inscriptions of ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 15 DOLLARS.

Reverse

A kookaburra is shown perched on a birdbath in the reverse design of the 2022 Australian Kookaburra Platinum Coin. This years design comes from Natasha Muhl and shows a decorative birdbath with a kookaburra perched on the edge. The design field includes Agapanthus in the background, a popular flowering plant in Australian gardens.

History

The Australian Kookaburra Platinum Coin was introduced in 2021. The first issue of the coins included a limited mintage of only 15,000 coins that quickly sold out at the mint. This years issue has the same mintage and is expected to sell out quickly as well!
