Obverse
As it has since 1982, the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests features on the obverse of 2022 Chinese Panda Gold Coins. This design shows the outer faade of the building with a view of its entrance staircase and the central tower of the building. The coins have a wider edge to the design field on this side and include inscriptions of 2022 and PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CHINA in Hanzi characters.
Reverse
Two playful panda grace the reverse side of 2022 Chinese Panda 30 Gram Gold Coins in a new design for the 40th anniversary. In this design, the two hurtle down a snowy hill with one on its back going feet first and the other on its stomach going face first. Inscriptions on this side include 500, 30 G AU .999, and the special 40th-anniversary mark. This mark has the digits 40 with a panda emerging from the 0.
History
In 1982, the Chinese Mint launched the gold version of the Chinese Panda with four weights available and added a fifth in 1983. The silver series launched in 1989 as an annual release BU coin. As of 2016, all of the coins are measured in Grams rather than Troy oz.
