History

The Targaryen family fled a mysterious disaster in the far-off land of Valyria centuries before the “present day” ofGame of Thrones,and conquered the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros several hundred years before that time. They had an erratic legacy that veered between greatness and the chaotic impulses of what was called the “Targaryen madness.” That madness eventually led to the fall of the Targaryens from the royal seat of Westeros, and ultimately led to the War of Five Kings featured in the show, making them one of the most pivotal factions in the overall story.
