Reverse
Admiral Ackbar in a commanding pose, his imaged colorized and sculpted in the Japanese-inspired Chibi or “big head” style of caricature, comprises the coin’s reverse. The art style puts special emphasis on the admiral’s watchful, enormous eyes.
History
Admiral Ackbar made his first on-screen appearance inStar WarsEpisode VI:Return of the Jedi,an alien hero of the Rebellion against the evil Galactic Empire. A combination of mask work and puppetry, cutting-edge effects in 1983, brought the character to life and he became one of the most recognizable characters in the franchise. Ackbar’s courage and steadfastness in battling the forces of the Empire made him a fan favorite, and he has been a presence in various kinds of Star Wars-related media ever since, making him a natural subject for a Star Wars-themed silver collectible from the New Zealand Mint.
