A profile effigy of Queen Elizabeth II dominates the coin’s obverse side, a design by Ian Rank-Broadley as seen on Commonwealth circulation coins around the globe. This portrait is accompanied by the inscriptions “Elizabeth II,” “Niue,” “250 Dollars” and “2022.”
History
Among the characters and moments commemorated in the New Zealand Mint’s DC Comics collection, Superman is likely the most famous, a presence in popular culture ever since his emergence in 1938, and the heart and soul of the DC Comics brand. He was the first character to unify the basic elements of the modern superhero: a cape-and-tights-wearing champion of goodness and justice with superhuman powers, a secret identity, and a brilliantly-colored costume. Remarkably for a character that has been around for almost a century, he remains immensely popular today.
