Obverse
The obverse of the 2022 Niue Czech Lion Gold Multigrams features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty features here in the 1998 design from Ian Rank-Broadley that was created for the Royal Mint of England as its fourth-generation effigy of the Queen. In the design, she wears the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The field includes inscriptions of 5 DOLLARS, NIUE ISLAND, 2022, and ELIZABETH II. History
The Czech Lion has two stories as to its origin, with most modern scholars attributing its appearance in Czech imagery to Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. He is said to have rewarded Prince Vladislaus II with a new royal crown and a new crest animal, the lion, in 1158.
