Obverse

The obverse of 2022 Proof Australian Brumby 1 oz Coins contains an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is currently the longest-reigning Queen in the history of the British monarchy. She is depicted here with the Coronation Necklace and the George IV State Diadem as she faces the right side. The initials JC stand for Jody Clark, who designed the portrait. Additional inscriptions read ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 100 DOLLARS.

Reverse

On the reverse field of the 2022 Proof Australian Brumby Gold Coin is a Brumby horse. This image lets you see this feral horse in all its splendor as it leaps among the rocky terrain of its homeland. Youll see inscriptions that read AUSTRALIAN BRUMBY, 2022, 1 OZ, .9999 GOLD.

History

The Brumby is a feral horse generally found in the Northern Alps and Queensland. The reason these horses are feral is that they were either lost or abandoned by European settlers. One common theory posits that they were left behind by Sergeant James Brumby in 1804 when he left New South Wales for Tasmania. While most Brumbies run wild and free, a portion of them has been domesticated for work at stations or on farms. While some members of the Australian population regard these horses as pests, many also cherish their presence and see them as vital members of Australias culture and history.
