The European Roller is a far-traveling and brightly-colored bird with azure and turquoise plumage. It’s named for its distinctive flight patterns featuring twists, turns, dives, and somersaults, and known for migrating over incredible distances to winter in various regions of sub-Saharan Africa, a pattern that has made the species a major subject of scientific migration studies. This eye-catching bird is now celebrated by the 2022 Proof Cook Islands Eclectic Nature Roller 1 oz Silver Coin, available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The 2022 Proof Cook Islands Eclectic Nature Roller Silver Coin features a mirror-like proof finish and ultra high-relief engravings, with stunning colored artwork and backgrounds on its reverse side. Each coin in vibrant box packaging along with an individual Certificate of Authenticity.
Obverse
The coin’s obverse side features the late monarch Queen Elizabeth II in an official effigy that confirms it as legal tender. It is joined by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “5 DOLLARS,” “COOK ISLANDS,” and “2022.”
Reverse
The coin’s reverse side features a European Roller as a study in contrasts. The two halves of the bird appear in different color spectra, with the plumage as seen by the human eye on the left, and seen as it would appear to an avian eye on the right. A mirrored proof finish defines the background on the right, while a silk black finish does likewise on the left, and the inscription “Electic Nature” appears under the bird’s right wing.
History
The Eclectic Nature series of bullion collectibles uses SmartMinting technology to implement a mixed and contrast-based approach to commemorating some of the planet’s most colorful wildlife species. The first entry in the series celebrated the Fighting Fish, and the second uses a mixture of ultra high-relief artwork and a mirror-like proof finish to portray the European Roller in flight. It’s a particularly ideal coin for the artistically-minded collector.
