The 2023 release of the Australian Koala features a second consecutive design from Perth Mint designer Ing Ing Jong. Ms. Jong created the 2022 Australian Koala design, the 2022 Lunar Series III designs, and the 2023 Australian Lunar Series designs for the Perth Mint. She joined the mint in 2011 and created her first major series design in 2013.

Obverse

On the obverse of 2023 Koala 1 Kilo Silver Coins, you will find Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This 2015 design was created by Jody Clark and captures the Queen in right-profile relief wearing the George IV State Diadem. Inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, 1952-2022, AUSTRALIA, and 30 DOLLARS.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 2023 Australian Koala Silver Coin comes with a depiction of two koalas in a tree. The mother koala is shown clutching the branch of a gum tree as its young joey clings to its back. Inscriptions on this face include 2023, 1 KILO, 9999, SILVER, KOALA, and the P mint mark of Perth Mint.

History

These are the final Australian Koala Coins with Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Following her September 2022 passing, Perth Mint opted to release its major bullion programs with Her Majestys effigy for a final time and include a memorial date range of 1952-2022 on the obverse to celebrate her 70-year reign.

These 2023 Australian Koala 1 Kilo Silver Coins arrive in plastic capsules and are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. As with previous issues, there is no mint cap and Perth will continue striking these coins until the next design in the series is ready.
