Obverse
On the obverse of the 2023 British Gold Britannia Coin, the first-ever depiction of King Charles III on British coins is showcased. Designed by Martin Jennings in 2022, the portrait presents King Charles III in left-profile relief, without a crown adorning his head. Inscriptions include CHARLES III, D.G. REX. F.D., and 100 POUNDS.
Reverse
For the reverse face of the 2023 1 oz Gold Britannia Coin, the long-running Britannia effigy is displayed. Created by Philip Nathan in 1987, the design depicts Britannia in left-profile relief, with one hand grasping an olive branch resting on a shield, and the other hand holding a trident. She wears a Corinthian helmet atop her head. The inscriptions on this side read BRITANNIA, 2023, 1 OZ, 999.9, and FINE GOLD.
