History
The short, stubby wombat is easily one of the cutest critters in Australia. These marsupials are usually no more than 40 inches long and often only weigh between 50 and 70 pounds. There are currently three species of wombat in Australia: the common wombat, the Northern hairy-nosed wombat, and the Southern hairy-nosed wombat. They can be found throughout Australia in the mountains, forests, and grasslands. These nocturnal creatures are also considered herbivores, with their diet mainly consisting of native Australian grasses.
