Introducing the 2023 Mexican Libertad 2 oz Silver Coins, now up for grabs at Provident Metals! These timeless Mexican Silver Libertads have been treasured in the precious metals realm since 1982. The most radiant era for these coins was their second decade, especially during the 1990s. It was then that the Mexican Mint expanded the series, introducing 2 oz and 5 oz silver coins, along with four smaller fractional-ounce coins.
Highlights:
Your 2023 Mexican Libertad 2 oz Silver Coins are carefully encased in protective plastic flips to preserve their remarkable condition. Worth noting is the highest mintage within the 2 oz Libertad range, which can be traced back to the inaugural release in 1996.
Obverse
The striking obverse design of the 2023 Mexican Libertad Silver Coin features Mexico’s national coat of arms. Alongside the modern emblem of Mexico, this design includes ten historical renditions of the emblem. The seal, positioned at 12 o’clock, dates back to 1541 and showcases a majestic golden eagle in combat with a serpent, perched atop a prickly pear cactus. Inscriptions include only ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.
Reverse
Flipping the coin over, you’ll discover the enchanting image of Winged Victory. This design is inspired by the statue adorning the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. It portrays Victory with wings, holding a laurel wreath and broken chains. The inscriptions read 2 ONZA, PLATA PURA, 2023 LEY .999, and the mint mark.
History
The tale of the Silver Libertad Series began in 1982. Initially, these coins were available exclusively as 1 oz silver pieces, a trend that continued until 1990. Responding to the surging demand for Mexican silver, the mint introduced four fractional-ounce coins in 1991. Building on this success, the Mexican Mint introduced 2 oz and 5 oz silver coins in 1996. These larger-sized coins have been released annually ever since. While their popularity rivals the fractional-ounce coins, they remain just below the sought-after 1 oz coin in terms of demand.
