On the obverse of 2023 Scottish Unicorn 1 oz Silver Coins the Public Seal of Niue is shown. In this emblem, there are a pair of concentric circles topped with a crown. The Niuean motto is also featured on the lower portion of the seal. Obverse inscriptions read NIUE 2023, 2 DOLLARS.
Reverse
The reverse of 2023 Niue Scottish Unicorn 1 oz Silver Coins features a heraldic unicorn design. This image matches the upright unicorn display that is found on the Scottish coat of arms. History
This is the second design in the Heraldic Animals Series following the Dragon of Wales from 2022. In Scotland, the unicorn is seen as a symbol of respect, power, and honor. The beloved mythological creature features in the countrys heraldry as well as various monuments and artistic renderings across the region. During the 15th and 16th centuries, Scotland also minted gold coins known as unicorn and half-unicorn featuring this creature on the obverse design.
