History
These coins were struck at Pobjoy Mint, a private precious metals company located in Surrey, England. While the mint was established in 1965, the Pobjoy family has been involved in the metals business since the Middle Ages. This release was produced on behalf of the British Antarctic Territory, which was officially formed on March 3, 1962. While there are no native inhabitants of the region, it is occupied by a team of researchers from the British Antarctic Survey.
