The Mexican Libertad Silver Series has witnessed a fascinating evolution over the years. It all began in 1983 when the first 1 oz Proof Silver Libertad was introduced, quickly becoming an annual tradition starting in 1986. In 1992, the series expanded to include 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz coins. In 1996, the series further diversified with the addition of 2 oz and 5 oz coins, followed by the impressive 1 Kilo coin in 2008.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 2023 Reverse Proof Libertad 1 oz Silver Coins, you’ll find captivating depictions of the coat of arms of Mexico. In the central design field, youll encounter the modern seal of Mexico, encircled by 10 historical versions of the same seal. The design at the 12-oclock position dates back to 1524. Inscriptions here include ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 2023 Reverse Proof Mexican Libertad Silver Coin proudly features a depiction of Winged Victory. This image is inspired by the copper statue cast in 1910 to commemorate the centennial of the nation’s independence movement. In 1921, it was placed atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column to honor the centennial of the nation’s formal independence. The inscriptions on this side include 1 ONZA, PLATA PURA, 2023 LEY .999, and the mint mark.

History

Beyond various weights, the Mexican Mint broadened its horizons by offering more than just Proof Silver Libertads. In 2017, they introduced captivating reverse-proof versions of the coin, available in 1 oz, 2 oz, and 5 oz weights. From 2018 to 2019, the Mint added an antique version of the coin in the same three weights.
