History
On average, a gorilla family consists of ten members in a hierarchy led by a dominant male. There are also additional hierarchies among the female members of the group. Baby gorillas are considered infants until they turn 3/12. By the time they reach age 8, they are considered adults. When a male gorilla then turns 12, its back and hips take on a silver hue, earning them the iconic name of silverback.
