Obverse
The obverse side of the 2023 Somalia Elephant Gold Coin comes with a depiction of the Somali coat of arms. In this design, a crowned shield is featured with a background of horizontal lines and a single star in the foreground. This crowned shield is supported from the left and right by leopards, with spears and leaves crossed below. Inscriptions include SOMALI REPUBLIC, 2023, and 1,000 SHILLINGS.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2023 Elephant 1 oz Gold Coin, you will find an image of the African bush elephant. The design chosen for this release shows the elephant in right-profile relief as its long, powerful trunk reaches up to pull down a tree branch. The elephant is using its trunk to grab leaves off the top of the tree. The inscriptions on the coin read AFRICAN WILDLIFE, ELEPHANT, and 1 OZ AU 999.9.
History
The African Wildlife Series celebrates the African bush elephant, the largest living terrestrial land mammal in the world and the largest of the three living elephant species. The other living elephant species are the Asian Elephant and African forest elephant. All three are protected species.
