Obverse
On the obverse side of the 2023 St. Helena Spade Guinea Shield 1/10 oz Silver Coin, you’ll find the effigy of King Charles III. The King is portrayed in left-profile relief, a departure from the usual direction in which the queen is depicted. The image is surrounded by unique marks of identification. These markings read KING CHARLES III, 2023, THE EAST INDIA COMPANY, 10, and ST. HELENA.
Reverse
Flipping the coin to its reverse side, you’ll discover the Spade Guinea Shield design. The shield is divided into quarters, showcasing the seals of England, Scotland, Ireland, France, and the coat of arms of the House of Hanover. Inscriptions read GUINEA, .999 SILVER, and 1/10 OUNCE.
History
This coin marks the 6th release of St. Helena Spade Guinea Coins and is the 4th issue of the 1/10 oz weight. It presents a modern interpretation of a historic gold coin used in the late 18th century during the United Kingdom’s global dominance. The coin derives its name from the spade-shaped shield and the gold sourced from modern-day Guinea.
