Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907, this front-facing relief of Liberty shows her walking forward with the sun’s rays in the background. She holds a torch and an olive branch in her hands. Inscriptions on this side include LIBERTY, 2024, and the ASG signature mark.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 2024 American Eagle Gold Coin, you’ll find the iconic American bald eagle. This left-profile relief of the eagle’s head was designed by Jennie Norris in 2020 and made its debut on Gold Eagles in mid-2021. The inscriptions here include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 25 DOLLARS, and 1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD.
History
Back in 1834, the gold content in US circulation coins fell to 89.93%. In 1838, it was raised to .900 and remained at that level until 1933 when gold coin production was halted. American Gold Eagle bullion coins maintain 91.67% gold content, complemented by 5.33% copper and 3% silver for added durability.
