Obverse
On the front of the 2024 Proof Year of the Dragon 1/4 oz Gold Coin, you’ll see a portrait of King Charles III facing to the left. This portrait, made by Martin Jennings in late 2022, depicts the king without a crown, making it a distinctive image. Inscriptions include CHARLES III, D.G. REX. F.D., 25 POUNDS, and 2024.
Reverse
Flipping the coin, the reverse side features a majestic Chinese dragon over a tranquil river setting. The Chinese zodiac involves more than just animals it also includes five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Each animal corresponds to an element, creating a 60-year cycle. This means variations like the Wood Dragon or Fire Dragon come around every 60 years. The inscriptions read YEAR OF THE DRAGON, 2024, and the Chinese symbol for a dragon.
History
The most recent Year of the Dragon was in 2012, and now gives way to the latest Year of the Dragon in 2024. The years of the Dragon include 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024, and so on.
