The United States Coast Guard is the second-smallest branch of the United States Military, but would be the 12th largest navy in the world by itself. A part of the US Department of Homeland Security, the Coast Guard can be transferred to the Department of the Navy at any time by the President of the United States or by Congress during times of war.
