The $5 Half Eagle Gold Coin from the United States Mint was produced with impressive reliability for the young nation following the establishment of the new sovereign mint in 1792. Gold Half Eagle coins represented a $5 (USD) circulation gold piece and went through a total of six different designs. The final of those was the Indian Gold Half Eagle. Today, Pre-33 $5 Indian Gold Half Eagle Coins are available to you online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:

  • Available to you inside of the protective plastic slabs of the PCGS or NGC!
  • Released in two stages from 1908-1916 and again in 1929!
  • Limited availability of certified coins!
  • Contains .24187 Troy oz of actual gold content.
  • The face value of $5 (USD) is fully backed by the US government.
  • Graded Mint State 61 by the Professional Coin Grading Service or Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • The obverse bears the left-profile bust of a Native American figure with full headdress.
  • On the reverse is the so-called standing eagle design.
  • Please keep in mind that purchases of more than one coin could result in receiving several with matching date marks.

The United States Mints Gold Eagle coins were based on the standard $10 Gold Eagle coin. All other coins were named to reflect the face value based on the Gold Eagle. For example, these Half Eagle coins have a face value of $5 (USD) while the Gold Double Eagle Coin has a face value of $20 (USD).
Obverse
On the obverse side of all Pre-33 $5 Indian Gold Half Eagle Coins is a left-profile portrait of a Native American figure wearing a large, ornate feathered headdress. His figure is surrounded by inscriptions of Liberty above, the date mark below, six stars in front of his face, and seven stars behind the feathers of his headdress. Bela Lyon Pratt designed this image in 1907 for the Quarter Eagle and Half Eagle, and also designed the reverse image.
Reverse
The reverse face of Pre-33 Indian Gold Half Eagle Coins features the standing eagle design. This image includes an American bald eagle sitting perched on a collection of arrows that are wrapped in an olive branch. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, In God We Trust, and Five Dollars.
History
Bela Lyon Pratts design for the Quarter Eagle and Half Eagle is unique in that it marked the first-ever incuse strike of the United States Mint. This is the only circulation coin in American history to use an incuse strike, a production process that sinks the design into the surface of the coin with no raised elements.
Ordering
These Pre-33 $5 Indian Gold Half Eagle Coins are in Mint State 61 condition. Coins with this grade have diminished or even noticeably impaired mint luster. The surface may show clusters of large and small contact marks throughout with hairlines and scuff marks possible.
