Mickey Mouse may be a global brand in 2016, but back in 1928 he was little more than an idea in the mind of animator and voice-over artist Walt Disney. One of the first appearances of the Mickey Mouse character came in the 1928 short filmPLANE CRAZY.
In the black-and-white film, Mickey Mouse attempts to build a rickety plane out of spare car parts and farm equipment with the help of some friends on the farm. This film marked one of the first appearances of Mickey alongside his girlfriend, Minnie Mouse, and Mickey eventually invites her aboard his roughshod plane after she presents him with a horseshoe for good luck.

The obverse features the familiar right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley, this design stands as the fourth-generation depiction of Her Majesty used on commonwealth coins since 1952.
