Obverse
The obverse side of 2022 Proof British Trade Dollar 1 oz Coins features Queen Elizabeth II. This fifth-generation effigy was created by Jody Clark in 2015 for the Royal Mint. Her Majesty is seen with the Coronation Necklace around her neck and the George IV State Diadem over her head. Youll see inscriptions on the obverse that read QUEEN ELIZABETH II, ST. HELENA, 5 POUNDS, 2022.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2022 British Trade Dollar Gold Coins is an image of Britannia. She is shown on the right side looking towards us. On her head is a crested helmet and just behind her is a trident. Also shown in this design is a globe, which includes a map of the United Kingdom decorated with the Union Jack Flag. You will find inscriptions reading TRADE DOLLAR and EIC, which stands for East India Company.
History
The Trade Dollar series began in 2021 and is produced by the East India Company. The same company produced a similar series of coins between 2018 and 2020 that were exact replicas of original trade dollars found throughout the world. This new series, which is now in its second year of release, has re-imagined all of the original coin designs. If trade dollars were still used, what might they look like today?
