Obverse

On the obverse of 1882-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins, there is a bust of Lady Liberty. Facing left, we see Liberty with both a Phrygian cap and a crown made from cotton and wheat. The crown includes a band with the word LIBERTY. Other inscriptions read E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1882.

Reverse

The reverse side of 1882-CC Morgan Dollars contains the heraldic eagle. In this famous rendition, we see the eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch in its talons. This image was created by George T. Morgan and then introduced in 1878. Youll also see inscriptions on the reverse reading UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR.

History

The Carson City Mint would never have existed if not for Comstock Lode. This historic lode of silver ore in Virginia City, Nevada represented the first major silver mining site in the United States. When news broke in 1859 of silver under the Eastern Mount Davidson slope, prospectors arrived in droves, creating a mining frenzy comparable to the Gold Rush of 1848. By 1863, Congress had approved the creation of a nearby mint to strike coins from the newly found silver. Carson City struck its first coin, a Seated Liberty dollar, in 1870. In 1878, Carson City received the die for a new coin called the Morgan Silver Dollar, which would go on to become the most collected coin in US history.
