Australian Kookaburra Silver Coins are currently available from Perth Mint in three weights. The 1 oz silver coin is accompanied by the 10 oz and 1 Kilo silver coin. Only the 1 oz coin has a mintage limit, with Perth adopting an unlimited mintage for the two larger weights. This simply means Perth will strike the coins until the next design in the series is ready.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2023 Kookaburra 1 Kilo Silver Coins, you will find a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown in right-profile relief wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. Inscriptions on this field include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 30 DOLLARS.
Reverse
The reverse side of the Australian Kookaburra 1 oz Silver Coin features a design element unique to the 2023 release. This years image of the kookaburra includes two of the birds perched within the branches of a waratah plant. Inscriptions on this side of the coin read 2023 1 KILO 9999 SILVER, KOOKABURRA, and a P mint mark from Perth Mint.
History
Australian Kookaburra Silver Coins started with a 1 oz silver coin in 1990, added 2 oz, 10 oz, and 1 kilo coins in 1992, and downsized in 2010 with the cancelation of the 2 oz silver coin in the series.
