Introduced in 1997, the American Eagle Platinum Coin Series is the only one of the four American Eagle collections not to feature a historic coin design. While the American Eagle Gold program features Lady Liberty by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the American Eagle Silver Coin the Walking Liberty Design from Adolph A. Weinman, and the American Eagle Palladium Coin Winged Liberty from Weinman, the American Eagle Platinum Coin features a bust of the Statue of Liberty from John Mercanti that was never before used on American currency. Today, you have the opportunity to purchase American Eagle Platinum Coin Sets online at Provident Metals in near-perfect condition.

American Eagle Platinum Coins were introduced in 1997 with four weights available in total. The bullion and proof versions of the coin had 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz platinum coins available through the 2008 date mark. Starting in 2009, only 1 oz coins would be available in the series.

Obverse

On the obverse side of the American Eagle Platinum Coins in this set, you will find the face of the Statue of Liberty. The design captures the stoic gaze of Liberty with her flowing robes and spiked crown visible. The word Liberty is inscribed above her bust, with the date mark and In God We Trust also featured.

Reverse

The reverse face of American Eagle Platinum Coins bears the image of the American bald eagle. Created by Thomas D. Rogers, an assistant engraver at the United States Mint, this design shows the American eagle soaring through the sky with the sun rising in the background and a portion of the continent below visible. Inscriptions read United States of America, 9995, Platinum, and feature the date mark and individual weight.

History

American Eagle Platinum Coin Sets were only available from 1997 to 2008. The sets featured 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz platinum coins. With the conclusion of fractional-ounce coining in the series in 2008, the sets were no longer available.

Ordering

These American Eagle Platinum Coin Sets have Mint State 69 certifications from the PCGS. Coins in this condition have full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Examples of those flaws include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines located outside the primary focal points of the coin.
