Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse of Australian Koala 1/4 oz Gold Coins. The vast majority of coins currently available in this program have the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of the Queen created in 1998. This right-profile bust depicts the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. Any coins issued as of 2018 have the Jody Clark effigy created in 2015. This right-profile bust captures the Queen at the age of 89 with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head.

Reverse

As with other collections, the Perth Mint uses varying images of the koala on the reverse of Australian Koala 1/4 oz Gold Coins. The koala designs on the reverse have never repeated in this series, with the designs typically featuring either a single koala or a parent and young koala.

History

Australian Koala silver coins were the second major bullion program from the Perth Mint when introduced in 2007. It followed the 1990 release of the Australian Kookaburra. The 2008 introduction of Australian Koala Gold Coins joined the Australian Kangaroo Gold Bullion series as one of the major gold options from the mint.
