Only one million 2011 Canadian Silver Wolf Coins were ever produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, making it highly valuable among investors and collectors.
The first coin to be released in the Canadian Silver Wildlife Series, the 2011 Silver Wolf, is composed of 1 troy oz of .9999 pure silver. These off-quality coins may contain scratches, stains, toning, nicks, rim-dings or other minor imperfections.
The reverse of each 1 oz silver coin bears the image of a timber wolf standing beneath a full moon, pine trees just behind him. It is inscribed with the words “CANADA,” “9999” and “FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR.”
Considered legal tender in Canada, the obverse of each 2011 Silver Wolf features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, along with its face value of $5, which makes it a highly-recognizable, trusted means of barter in an emergency.
Six Installments of the Royal Canadian Mint’s Silver Wildlife Series Were Released:
2011 Silver Timberwolf
2011 Silver Grizzly
2012 Silver Cougar
2012 Silver Moose
2013 Silver Pronghorn Antelope
2013 Silver Wood Bison
The reverse of each 2011 and 2012 Wildlife coin was designed by William Woodruff. The 2013 editions were designed by Emily S. Damstra.
Each coin in the Canadian Silver Wildlife Series was produced in extremely limited quantities at the mint’s Ottawa facility.
About the Royal Canadian Mint
Striking its first coin in 1908, the Royal Canadian Mint has been producing Canada’s circulation coins for more than a century. It is the world’s only mint to issue commemorative coins in a .9999 fineness, while also striking bullion coins, bars and much more. The Crown Corporation took a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2007, producing the world’s largest coin — a 100 kg .9999 fine $1 million gold coin.
