The Guardian Angels 1 oz silver round at Provident Metals pays homage to soldiers who were injured on the battlefield and say they were accompanied by deceased comrades upon returning to base. Melanie Davis came across numerous warriors that had experienced similar occurrences while compiling stories for “The Triumph Book: Heroes.”

Melanie was inspired by a particular story of a wounded soldier being tended to by a female medic while another soldier stood guard on the battlefield. When the injured soldier returned to camp, he shared the names of the people that helped him and was told both had died a month earlier. None of these stories made it into the book as each soldier with these experiences wanted to keep them sacred.

Wes Scales, veteran and graphic designer, created an image to capture the story above for Melanie, who believed that having a knowledge that Guardian Angels walked alongside warriors would supply comfort and hope to heroes and loved ones. The image is the back cover of her book and was the inspiration behind the reverse design of the silver coin, which depicts two Guardian Angel soldiers with wings aiming down the sites of their weapon. A helicopter hovers over a field of hills and smoke in the distance. Inscriptions read “HEROES TRIUMPH” and “GUARDIAN ANGELS.”

The obverse displays a heart filled with stars and stripes that represents the love and patriotism we should have for our country and those who defend it. Army veteran Josh George designed the symbol for Melanie, who hopes it can gain recognition across the globe as a constant reminder of our gratitude. Surrounding the heart symbol on the coin is the website “www.LoveYourVeterans.org” and “ONE TROY OUNCE .999 FINE SILVER.”
