Introduced in 1878, the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin is one of the most famous circulation coin designs in American history. Issued continuously from 1878 to 1904, and again in 1921, the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin remains a popular option for collectors buying silver in the 21st century. Provident Metals now has Morgan Dollar Silver 5-Coin Sets available to you for purchase with certification from the NGC.
Highlights:
When you purchase these Morgan Dollar Silver 5-Coin Sets from Provident Metals, you will receive a collection of five individual Morgan Dollars. Each one of the coins is in its own protective plastic slab from the NGC with a grade of Mint State 65. Coins in this condition showcase high-quality mint luster with small, scattered contact marks and one or two small patches of hairlines. None of the visual detractions on these coins are found within the primary focal fields of the coin.
Provident Metals offers these Morgan Dollar Silver 5-Coin Sets with dates from the original 27-year run for the series. Morgan Dollars were issued continuously from 1878 to 1904 and those dates are represented in this set. Additionally, you will receive five different date marks with no matches.
Obverse
The obverse of Morgan Dollar Silver Coins in this set comes with a portrait of Lady Liberty. Inspired by Anna Willess Williams, the effigy of Liberty comes with long strands of curly hair emerging from underneath her Phrygian cap. She wears a coronet with LIBERTY inscribed on it and also a laurel wreath. There are 13 stars in the design field with additional inscriptions of E PLURIBUS UNUM and a date mark.
Reverse
On the reverse field of the coins in the Morgan Dollar Silver 5-Coin Set is a depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States of America. The eagle does not come with a US national shield in this design, but it does have its wings spread wide as it clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.
History
Morgan Dollar Silver Coins were struck in the 1878-1904 period by four different mints. The Philadelphia and San Francisco Mints struck the coins each year, while the New Orleans Mint issued the coins every year with the exception of 1878. The Carson City Mint struck the coins from 1878 to 1885 and again from 1889 to 1893.
