Armenian Noah’s Ark Silver Coins at Provident Metals

The Armenian Noah’s Ark Silver Coin is among the newest coin programs on the market. However, it’s already proven to be among the most popular. With many sizes and variations to choose from, you can learn all about these Armenian Noah’s Ark Silver Coins right here, at Provident Metals.

Series Background

The series is inspired by the well-known Bible story of Noah’s Ark. God punished mankind with a flood because of their collective sins. However, Noah is spared. God tells Noah and his family that a flood is coming and that they need to build a large boat that can contain them and at least two of every animal species. The entire Earth is submerged in water. Eventually, Noah and his ark find shelter atop Mount Ararat.

This snow-capped volcano serves as the basis for the obverse design. While Mount Ararat is technically in Turkey, part of the mountain used to reside in Armenia’s borders. Armenia was eventually divided though, and the volcano became a part of Turkey. However, the mountain is best seen today, from Armenia.

The series has been issued annually since 2011. The series debuted with three distinct sizes (1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1 oz.) The following year, four more weights were introduced (5 oz, 10 oz, 1 kilogram, 5 kilogram.) Coins have been issued in these sizes annually ever since.

Every coin has a purity of .999 pure silver. Each weight also has a unique face value.

  • 1/4 Troy oz: 100 Dram
  • 1/2 Troy oz: 200 Dram
  • 1 Troy oz: 500 Dram
  • 5 Troy oz: 1,000 Dram
  • 10 Troy oz: 5,000 Dram
  • 1 Kilogram (32.1507 Troy oz): 10,000 Dram
  • 5 Kilograms (160.754 Troy oz): 20,000 Dram

While they have the backing of Armenia, these coins are struck by Geiger Edelmetalle, the oldest silver trading house in Germany.

Design

  • Obverse: The Armenian coat of arms is on the obverse of these coins. This emblem features an eagle and a lion propping up a shield that also shows heraldic eagles and lions. At the center of the shield is a depiction of Noah’s Ark atop Mount Ararat. Identifying marks of the coin, such as the year of issue, country, metal content, purity, and face value are also seen.
  • Reverse: A unique depiction of Noah’s Ark is on the reverse side of these coins. The ark is seen floating in the water with Mount Ararat in the background. A dove is seen flying at the viewer while the sun illuminates the background.
