The obverse of the Timber Wolf 1 oz Copper Round features two timber wolves standing amid the terrain of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. One wolf stands on a log gazing toward the viewer, while the other howls at the moon in the distance. “TIMBER WOLF” is inscribed.

Timber wolves have a sordid history in Yellowstone National Park. In an effort to protect local livestock and elk populations, the wolves were extirpated from the park. The timber wolf was reintroduced to Yellowstone in the 1990’s from Canada. While formerly endangered, the wolves were able to build a stable population, and were delisted as endangered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 2008.

Occupying over 3400 square miles of northwestern Wyoming, Yellowstone features a variety of unique habitats that support a diverse assemblage of organisms. Yellowstone was designated and established as the first National Park in the world in 1872. Its attractions include the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Old Faithful and Yellowstone Lake.

The reverse features a rendering of the United States of America with the country’s national bird soaring above, holding a banner in its beak reading “By Thomas D. Rogers, Sr.” Rogers, a former U.S. Mint sculptor and engraver, also designed each obverse in the American Wildlife Series. A decorative border of five-pointed stars, and inscriptions of the round’s weight, purity and series name complete the design.

Each Timber Wolf 1 oz Copper Round was manufactured at the Elemetal Mint, which consists of Ohio Precious Metals (OPM), NTR Metals, and Provident Metals. While innovation and craftsmanship are part of the Continuous Improvement Process of all new products, this Private Mint prides itself on its manufacturing capacity and fulfillment processes, as well as its claim to the highest possible quality certifications in the industry.
