The ancient Chinese zodiac associates twelve animals to years on the astrological calendar. It’s believed that each person’s year of birth gives them the personality attributes of the animal tied to that year. The birth years for the Year of the Rabbit include 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, and 2011. People born in these years are said to be intelligent, loyal, articulate, and compassionate.
Like many Perth coins, the obverse features a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. “ELIZABETH II,” “AUSTRALIA,” and the denomination are inscribed around the rim.
Designed by Louise Pinder, the reverse design for the Year of the Rabbit features a rabbit sitting in a patch of grass with one ear flopped over. Above, you’ll see the Chinese character for rabbit. This side also includes an inscription of “YEAR OF THE RABBIT,” along with the purity, weight, and year of issue.
Each Year of the Rabbit coin will come in a protective plastic capsule as received from the mint.
