As is traditional for Australian coinage, the obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her image is surrounded by textured fields with a matte-like finish. The country of origin, weight, purity, and face value are inscribed towards the edge.
This 2014 special-edition bullion coin celebrates the relationship between Perth and Houston as Sister Cities. Both coastal cities are major petroleum producers; the coin honors the status with an image of both Texas and Australian oil rigs. The reverse also displays the “P” mintmark, which indicates that the coin was struck at the Perth Mint of Australia.
From time to time, the Perth Mint of Australia issues special-edition bullion coins. In addition to their mainstay product lines (like Kangaroos, Koalas, and Kookaburras) the Perth Mint sometimes releases one-time commemoratives. These issues are often quite scarce and difficult to find in the marketplace.
The 2014 Perth Mint 1/2 oz Sister Cities coin is a prime example. This coin was struck for just one year and saw limited distribution worldwide. For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
