The obverse of the 2 oz Koala features a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. The words “ELIZABETH II” and “AUSTRALIA” are inscribed around the rim, along with the coin’s weight, purity, denomination, and year of issue.
The Next Generation Koala’s reverse features a mother koala atop a tree branch with her baby on her back. At birth, baby koalas measure less than 2 cm. They are blind and deaf, but their strong forelimbs help them climb into their mother’s pouch after birth. The mint’s “P” mintmark is seen on this side, along with radial lines.
In Spring 2018, the Perth Mint of Australia took the bullion world by storm with an all-new series: The Next Generation. All of the coins in this product line feature both a mother and baby of various iconic Australian animals. The series kicked off with a striking two-ounce silver piedfort featuring two koala bears.

The label is more than just decorative; it also confirms the coin’s unique NGC serial number, grade, and official First Day of Issue status.
